The community of ʔaq̓am wishes to continue the traditional land practice of sustainable land management by controlling the spread of invasive weeds on ʔaq̓am lands. Objectives of the project include reducing the seed bank and population density of Sulphur Cinquefoil, Potentilla recta, through the use of targeted goat grazing in select areas. Control of Sulphur Cinquefoil will help protect native plant populations, ungulate forage and native wildlife habitat within the sensitive grassland ecosystem at ʔaq̓am.
ʔaq̓am’s Lands and Natural Resource Department is seeking quotes for assistance from a Qualified Environmental Professional to monitor the effects of goat grazing within selected plots at the project location within Kootenay IR #1. Each plot location will be monitored twice, once prior to grazing and again post grazing.
